Royal Holloway Makes An Appearance at the National Women's Tournament

The annual National Women’s tournament went ahead on the last weekend of February at Westcroft Park Polo Club in which three of our club members took part in two of the leagues; the -2-0 goal featuring myself and the 0-2 goal featuring Holly Edwards and coach, Georgia Sweeney.

Although the first day of matches was not as triumphant as both teams might have hoped for, we were not phased by this and after some team talks we were feeling good about the rest of the tournament.

A highlight of the weekend was being able to watch the Arena Gold Cup Final which gave us all a chance to see some great polo and talent. To anyone who wasn’t able to come down and watch this year, if you do anything next arena season, get yourself down to RCBPC and watch the Gold Cup as it’s not to be missed!

After a long day it was agreed we all needed a drink (or five) to warm us up, and with the Gold Cup after-party taking place, we couldn’t think of a better excuse to have a little boogie and discuss further team tactics.

The next morning, having forgotten most of the team tactics discussed the previous night, a refresher was in order before the proceeding matches. A fast paced semi final went in Ash Farm’s favour and after a break we jumped onto our ponies for the final of the -2-0 goal league. The final result was worked out by goal difference and Westcroft Park narrowly took the lead with just one goal difference over Ash farm. Although neither team came home with the silver, the National Women’s tournament was a fantastic tournament to take part in. Both myself and Holly strongly encourage fellow women players out there to take part in next year’s tournament, as it’s a fantastic way to improve your game.
